#12029: Expander silently ignores a bad exitcode

When extracting a corrupt zipfile, unzip returns a bad (!0) exitcode.
Expander silently ignores this and doesn't tell the user, it seems.
This led me chasing a bug elsewhere in some data-reading code, when the
real problem was that the file was corrupt.
