I understand and respect your reasons :-)
So, maybe, a good compromise would be to make the network notification
optional?
For me, the "problem" is not the fact that the notification obstructs the
Deskbar for a second or two (I use many other notifications on my system,
and the position of notification is OK for me), is just the fact that for
me this net notification is just redundant and superfluos
(just remember that is also possible placing/drag the network status as
replicant on the Desktop: here the "green dot" is more bigger):
