That would allow more of them to fit on the screen. With the popup
 notifications the larger insets aren't really an issues since it is
 unlikely to have a large number of notifications at once.

 This can happen rather easily also with normal notifications. Example: I
 connect Vision to an IRC bouncer, which means that when I start it, it
 replays the conversations from the night. If someone sent me private
 messages, each of them will result in a notification at that time.

 So, I don't see any problems with a more compact look, even for the normal
 notifications.
