Seeing how many chipsets from many different vendors don't work, my guess
at this point is that we are missing some common setup step rather than
some magic set of verbs. Because often these devices have working audio
input, it's just output that's broken, yes? So the "mixer not insertable
in output path" may be the actual problem, so to speak, rather than a
symptom of another one.
