I fixed those back in August 2018:

59ebd5f] and after seeing that "--" doesn't need escaping in a pre-block,
reverting a few escapes in

b3408d6].
I'm pretty sure I checked those changes (that's how I saw I had to revert
some escaping), and it looked OK back then. Has some setting of the server
changed?\\
BTW, CuteMarkEd shows the the "--" correctly in pre and tt-tags. Can we
configure the server to not need escaping in those tags at least?
