 I do not believe any of the developers run a primary install off of a USB
 disk (we all have installs to internal HDDs under SATA, etc.), and only
 the usb_disk driver seems unable to read > ~12MB of data at once, and only
 mmap() seems to trigger such reads normal circumstances (reads of smaller
 files seem to go through the disk cache and are segmented.)
