#15816: Installer broken - Error: Invalid Argument

Installer in r53991 does not even start after hitting Begin with "Error:
Invalid Argument". Nothing is written to syslog and nothing to stdout
except for the "skipping" messages expected
r53713 works - I'm testing on real hardware with CDRs so can't do a binary
search between these unfortunately
Hardware is a retro Dell PIII 1Ghz/512MB RAM which has run Haiku happily
for 9 years.
