I had this problem with Alpha 1. Below is my ethernet hardware: device Network controller (Ethernet controller) [2|0|0] vendor 8086: Intel Corporation device 1229: 82557/8/9/0/1 Ethernet Pro 100 I booted without the ethernet cable and verified I had the 169.... bad ipaddress I used the network applet to enable dhcp and got a vaild ip address from my router.
