#6105: [RFC] OpenFirmware frame buffer support --------------------------------+------------------------------------------- Reporter: andreasf | Owner: axeld Type: enhancement | Status: new Priority: normal | Milestone: R1 Component: System/Boot Loader | Version: R1/Development Keywords: | Platform: PowerPC Blockedby: | Patch: 1 Blocking: 1048 | --------------------------------+------------------------------------------- Comment(by andreasf): Patches 1-3 do the preparatory work and could be applied right away. Patch 4 is an updated RFC: Setting mode and depth has been removed, they are not strictly needed since OpenFirmware initializes the screen. My old VGA-connected screen has some EDID issue, so that OpenFirmware uses odd- looking 832x624 resolution; on my other DVI-connected screen the native resolution 1280x1024 is used. In both cases the depth is 8 bit by default. The [source:haiku/trunk/src/system/kernel/arch/ppc/arch_platform.cpp#L167 "serial debug" kernel output] leads to half-transparent text output in 8-bpp mode and to a grayish distortion in 32-bpp mode. Still have to find a condition to suppress the output. -- Ticket URL: <http://dev.haiku-os.org/ticket/6105#comment:7> Haiku <http://dev.haiku-os.org> Haiku - the operating system.
