 I am experiencing a similar problem on my eeepc 901 with hrev43563.
 After the startup icons have been shown, a strange visual effect occurs: a
 white fuzzy "cloud" appear in the center of the screen and everything
 slowly fades to black. After that, the screen stays black.

 Similar to the descriptions in the comments above, older Haiku versions
 worked just fine. Would it maybe be a good idea to move the current
 version of the intel_extreme driver into an experimental branch and have
 the more stable old version in the trunk instead? Thanks.
