The link line lists `libroot_build.so` and the library defines and exports
the symbols in question, so I don't see why the linker would complain. I
didn't spot anything related in the binutils changelog either.
You could experiment a bit with the link line -- e.g. with the library
order -- and see if that makes a difference. Also run with `-v` so we see
the tools invoked.
