 Personally I don't mind maintaining the FreeBSD drivers and now libnvme in
 the tree; merging stuff is not that bad at all. It's much easier to
 maintain our own modifications this way. I think glibc is the only thing
 with complicated Jamfiles really, maintaining those isn't an issue. So at
 least the components I'm responsible for, I'd greatly prefer they stay in
 the tree.
