From my point of view, having done many Specialist shows in the past, for a
show to be called 'Specialist' all music within it needs to be from a specific
genre or sub genre, whatever that genre may be.
From what I've heard, Katey's first show didn't do that as she played music
from a variety of rock genre's. Therefore, imho, it's not a Specialist show.
The only exception to this would be Simon Halsey's 'Variety Mix', which does
exactly what it says on the tin, plays a variety of musical genre's.
This is something that needs to be sorted, especially as we have a Promo
running for her show, which if I remember correctly actually names certain
bands that will be included?
As for her DJ style, I suspect a lot of that comes from her Drama training,
which I heard her mention last night. As others have said, hopefully she'll
alter that over time & it's always good to hear enthusiasm from a DJ for the
music they're playing.

As an additional thought. If it is “Altrnative or “Indie or “post punk she is
trying to achieve then Andy Gunton and Simon Halsey will be able to confirm
those definitions as they have both fronted shows in those genres in past
broadcasts.

I’ve been trying to find a genre that her music fits in and to be honest I

So perhaps discard the new/ modern label and advertise it as “post grunge”-
“New Wave Of New Wave NWONW” or “Alternative” or something.

Sorry just want to put something else into the mix......listener feedback. Had
a few people contact me to say they enjoyed her because she sounded fresh and
enthusiastic but perhaps more importantly they enjoyed her music choices. As
she only has one more show is it worth vetting her music. If we ask her back
next time just slot her into a normal playlist show.

Nothing wrong with playing Springsteen it’s on a great album but not on a
“modern rock” show.

Yes I’m waiting for her to contact me , or I will before her next show .
I will explain things nicely , the trouble is she might already be in these
bad habits .
She also newer started the track a few seconds early and every link said. Here
on Hastings Rock.. annoying to say the least ,
Jon Robson does that too , this is how they were trained unfortunately .
On the music front , I seems I know more about Modern rock than her ! she
played Bruce Springsteen ,
I will vet every song for her last show .

I thought she was ok and understandably nervous. She will be fine the more
times she does a show.
I am not sure how the music fitted into the Modern Genre and hence the
specialist concept. it wasn't what I expected and what was described as what
she was going to do music-wise.
Nick, what was the brief she was given for the show?

I only heard the first 10 minutes, which sounded fine to me. But I remember
every track being her favourite when I listened to her on Willingdon Radio.
When she played The Darkness I did wonder how that fitted into a Modern Rock
show, seeing how old the track is now.
Anyway, I'm sure others have far more valid feedback having listened to far
more of her than me.

Ok guys. Honest opinions please.
I like her voice but every track is her favourite and the “here on HR” every
track is annoying but that will get less as time goes on. I can only imagine
how nervous she is. HR is quite a daunting place fir a newbie.
My big issue is I don’t see how it can be a specialist show because there
seems to be no difference in feel to the show from the normal playlist.
And she finished to early
Good job Harry was ready
