** Hastings Rock Radio **
Afternoon everyone,
Everything is just about ready now for the kick off tonight, hopefully
it'll all run smoothly but given we've not done anything like this
before there may well be one or two gremlins along the way.
The remainder of this is more for those of you on the FB group and
possible website contact - Simon you still get the webmaster emails?
As I mentioned before, we normally have between 50-60 listeners online
with a capacity of 100, we've doubled that this year to 200 (given we
split the stream into two a low + high bitrate, that may equate to 400
total but I can't be sure that is how it will work).
Given we have no way of measuring our FM listeners, we have no idea
whether that number is sufficient or not. As I mentioned before, if it
isn't we can upgrade the capacity however that won't be instantaneous,
they are normally pretty responsive on this but it could be 24 hours or
possibly longer since it is a bank holiday weekend.
The first day is traditionally the busiest, I'll be keeping a close eye
on things anyway to make sure everything is working and if we start to
head towards the 200 figure, I can quickly switch in some extra capacity
from the server here - can probably add upwards of another 40-60
listeners that way.
The key point if we do start hitting the limits, please ask listeners to
be patient whilst we up the capacity. Using the lower bandwidth stream
will help under these circumstances as I can obviously generate a lot
more of these. Preferably use a standalone media player (eg. VLC) and
play from the following URL:
http://www.hastingsrock.co.uk/32k-aac.pls
rather than the player on the website.
TuneIn also uses that stream so that is another option.
The overall listener figures can be seen on this page:

Rgs,
Jon.

You have to pay by the month, we normally need 2 months to have a bit
of
overlap beforehand to make sure everything works, put out test streams
etc. We'd want to do the same here.

I’m happy to go with the 200/400 option, as Jon suggested.behalf
Can we just sign up for one month, ie May?

** Hastings Rock Radio **
Anyone have any thoughts about how much capacity we should buy for the
Internet streams? We normally go for 100 and since we split that into
two streams, gives us capacity for 200 listeners (assuming even split
across platforms).
I was thinking going for 200, which then gives us 400 across the two
feeds. Comes to £8.50/month. We can always upgrade if necessary...
