Off National Drive Electric Week with In-person and Simulcast event - "DRIVING
EV LEADERSHIP: How to Develop a Local EV Ecosystem" The East Tennessee Clean
Fuels Coalition (ETCleanFuels), in partnership with, the Tennessee Department
of Environment and Conservation Field Offices (TDEC) and DriveElectricTN (DET),
will kick off the National Drive Electric Week with local and statewide leaders
on Thursday, September 24 at The Carnegie Hotel, in Johnson City, TN from 8 am
until 12:30 pm. The event will begin with a presentation from TDEC's
Commissioner David W. Salyers, P.E. , who will provide information about
Electric Vehicle accomplishments in Tennessee and will be followed by other
leaders that will discuss topics related to how to develop a local EV
ecosystem. “One of the goals for this community leadership engagement event
is to foster relationships and create a diverse, local team to develop your
community's EV Ecosystem through the establishment of a DriveElectricTN
Chapter,” said Jonathan Overly, Executive Director of ETCleanFuels. Other
presenters will include Johnson City Mayor Jenny Brock, Bristol Councilwoman
Margaret Feierabend, ETCleanFuels Executive Director Jonathan Overly,
BrightRidge Chief Development & Market Strategy Officer Bonnie Donnolly,
General Motors’ Business Development Manager Kevin Couturier, East Tennessee
State University’s WETS FM Radio Station Manager Wayne Winkler, EV Pioneer Dave
Hrivnak and DriveElectricTN Statewide Coordinator Virginia Salazar Buda.
Other statewide EV free public events being held, in unison, with Johnson
City’s kick-off include an event at the Chattanooga TDEC Field Office led by
External Affairs Director Amy Katcher on Thursday, Sept 24th at their offices.
In addition, there are two other EV public events led by Assistant Professor
Dr. Pingen Chen of Tennessee Technological University (TN Tech) on Sat, Sept
26, in Cookeville and Sat, Oct 3rd in Crossville. The TN Tech events are hosted
in collaboration with External Affairs Director Tara Wohlgemuth of the
Cookeville TDEC Field Office, Vice President of Economic Development Stephen
Crook of the Cookeville Chamber of Commerce, and ETCleanFuels. “We’re
encouraged, in this first year event, that we have strong leaders from small to
large businesses, utility, local and state government, education, health and EV
pioneers that want to participate in this community experience,” said primary
event organizers Virginia Salazar Buda, DET Statewide Coordinator and Jan
Compton, TDEC Johnson City External Affairs Director. “Our team of stakeholders
look forward to providing more information about EVs which are more than just
shiny brand-new tech…they also have a positive impact on our health and
environment, while also supporting domestic energy sources," concluded Salazar
Buda. After the presentation, there will be an opportunity to view and
learn more about EVs with subject matter experts and community EV pioneers.
There will be a variety of EVs on display, including a Tesla Model 3, Nissan
Leaf, Chevrolet Bolt, a Toyota Prius Prime and a BMW i3. Local automobile
dealership representatives from Champion Chevrolet and Johnson City Nissan will
also be available to answer questions. "Partners across the state have been
making starter in-roads towards developing DET Chapters in several cities,
including in Johnson City, Cookeville and Memphis," said Overly. "We realize
the importance of furthering our relationship and collaborating with TDEC’s
eight Field Offices is an important element in that community EV team building.
We have an awesome group of stakeholders brought together for this Johnson City
event and hope to use this a model going forward to develop the needed
leadership in communities across the state. We look forward to meeting the
group on Thursday and working with community members in Northeast Tennessee!”
This free event has a limit of 50 seats and follows the Carnegie Hotel, Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Governor Bill Lee’s COVID-19

26-Oct 4, 2020, is a nationwide celebration to raise awareness of the many
benefits of all-electric and plug-in hybrid cars, trucks, motorcycles, and
more. They are fun to drive, are less expensive and more convenient to fuel
than gasoline vehicles, are better for the environment, promote local jobs, and
reduce our dependence on foreign oil. Are you considering going electric? Come
talk to owners who have successfully done so! Each year, National Drive
Electric Week includes hundreds of events in communities across the United
States and around the world. This year, for the 10th annual National Drive
Electric Week, we will be adding online events for the first time, including
the NDEW Kick-Off Event event on Sep 24, 2020. Please see the events page for
more information about national, state and local events near you. Register to
