Subject: [knoxev] Update on EV WATTS data gathering project and recruitment!
Hey everyone!
At a KEVA meeting earlier this year, Jonathan from East Tennessee Clean Fuels
introduced a data collection project that’s being funded by the US Department
of Energy, called EV WATTS <http://www.energetics.com/evwatts> . We have
partnered on the project, along with other Clean Cities Coalitions around the
country, because the resulting anonymized dataset will help us understand EV
usage trends and aid in grasping how best to grow PEV adoption in the future.
During the KEVA meeting where Jonathan explained the project, many of you
indicated your interest in participating! We now want to conduct a follow-up to
confirm everyone's continued interest. Here is a list of who’s indicated
interest so far:
* Marty Young (confirmed interest this week)
* Will Schleter (confirmed interest this week)
* Gary Bulmer (confirmed interest this week)
* Mark Bishop (confirmed interest this week)
* Eric Cardwell (confirmed interest this week)
* Bill Williams (indicated interest at KEVA meeting)
* Robert Cole (indicated interest at KEVA meeting)
* Susan Goodwin (confirmed interest this week)
* Jack Goodwin (confirmed interest this week)
* Daniel Siksay (ETCleanFuels employee)
* Virginia Salazar Buda (ETCleanFuels employee)
Thanks to these people for expressing support for this important project!
They would like us to (1) confirm the interest you expressed earlier this year,
or (2) express interest for the first time.
Please e-mail sarah@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx <mailto:sarah@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> to
confirm your interest or add your name if you haven’t already done so this
month!
To participate in the project, a professional technician will come to Knoxville
sometime in early 2021 to install a telematics device in your PEV (We will
tackle this much like we did the video shoot day at the World's Fair Park where
we stager everyone showing up and knock out all the installs in one day!).
Teslas are capable of participating! Your fully anonymized data will join a
dataset of thousands of other EV drivers and allow researchers to understand EV
usage along the following vectors:
* 18-24 months data collection (2020-2021)
* Vehicle descriptions (e.g., make, model, year)
* Trip-level, longitudinal vehicle data
* Odometer or EV mode odometer (for PHEVs),
* Battery state of charge
* Vehicle GPS location
* Ambient temperature
* Charging energy consumed and charging rate
* Information about passenger vehicle owner/lessee
* Entity type
* Availability and type of charging equipment
* Terms of ownership
* Number of non-plug-in vehicles in household
* Use of vehicle to provide ridesharing services, etc.
* Household demographic data (location, number of
* people and drivers, household income)
* EVSE event-level, longitudinal charging station data
* Plug-in session start and end times
* Power transfer start and end times
* Charging energy consumed
* 15-min rolling average power

They would like to thank us for partnering with us on this project! The more
data we can collect, the more researchers can understand how best to position
EVs to take the world by storm in the coming years.
Thanks to all the members that are stepping up to participate in this project.
Have a great week KEVA members!
