try vo-shift-m. if you say sometimes, I wonder what the difference is? It may be a javascript thing in which case, it is possible the the context menu won't even have the play choice in it. Some times, I'll be on a web site either in Safari, or in Google Chrome Canary... usually Safari... which has a link I can hit vo+space on to play an internet audio stream. I'm finding that on my Windows machine, if I select the link, WinAmp will automatically pop up and start playing the stream, no questions asked. On the mac, however, I'm finding that pressing vo+space will simply throw the M3U, or whatever it is into my downloads. I then, have to hide my browser, go all? the way back to my Finder, get to the file, then hit command+O on it to open it. Wow! What a pain in the kneck! Obviously, I am perfectly aware, before anyone gripes that I can just hit vo+shift+M instead of vo+space on the link, then vo+down arrow to open. Perhaps that's the only other way to do it, and if so, that's perfectly fine. I have no objection to doing it that way, it's just that for me, I don't know why, but hitting vo+shift+M on a link is a bit awquard. Agfain, don't know why, but, it is, never the less, so there. LOL! Escentially, for one thing, I can't go into the finder, and reassociate the file type to open in, say... vlc, or say, Quicktime instead of ITunes. Well, ok, fine, I mean, technically speaking I can, but there are actually times I like ITunes openning M3U internet streams, as then in my sources list, it makes a playlist called internet feeds or something to that effect where all those streams go, so later I can just pop open ITunes without going all the way to the web site. On the same note however, there are more times that I honestly don't want the m3u's going into my ITunes library. Say, if it's a stream I'm probably only going to play on or two times. Yeah I know I'm lazy, I could just go delete it from the library, you're right, I could, again, I never said this was a big deal per sey, keep that in mind. I only stateed I'm wonderring if I can somehow make it where hitting vo+space would automatically open the stream. I have Safari set to not automatically open safe files after download, as I don't want it thinking for me. I don't always want to open a file safe or not after finished downloading. Maybe I'm just weird, but... Anyway, thanks for any help, should there be any further suggestions. Chris. ************ You are subscribed to the mac4theblind mailing list.
