Hello,

There are several options that work well. Like anything, it is primarily based 
on your individual need and the degree to which you want to merely just process 
text, or manipulate your text.
Thus, a great program that will help accomplish the former, is ByWord. This is 
an excellent way to just get thoughts out. Also there is a WordPress plugin, 
which is very useful when submitting blog posts.
Scrivener is another great word processing program. This is for the heavy 
writer. This allows one to compile a series of documents and additional files 
together in one area to help with organization when composing manuscripts. This 
is not free, but well-worth the cost for the features it does provide.
Moreover, a default program that is already installed with each OS on the Mac 
is Text Edit. This is not one I use regularly, but it does help accomplish mere 
word processing.
Needless-to-say, these are options I utilize.
