[mac4theblind] How to permanently delete emails without then deleting them from the trash aftwrwards

Hello all, subject explains it all.
When I was using windows I could do this by adding the shift to the delete key
and this would wipe out all messages.
Is there a way to do this on Mac OSX Lion?
