Hey all. I can't update to the latest version yet but here is what the page
says when you click check for updates.

CCC is no longer freeware. If you're using CCC 3.4 and would like to continue
using it under the "free" model, do not install this update.

If you have not donated to Bombich Software in the past, this version of CCC
will impose a 30-day trial. In order to grow our support and development team,
we have made the transition to a commercial product. This will allow us to to
continue offering frequent updates to our software, including new features.
This will also enable our stellar customer support to remain that way.
Transitioning from donationware to a commercial offering underscores our
commitment to deliver the best Mac OS X cloning and backup utility on the
market.

and this is what it says with the faq of can I use the older version.

Yes, absolutely. Note, however, that previous versions of CCC are not qualified
against Mountain Lion. Choose "Update CCC..." from the Carbon Copy Cloner menu
to see options for disabling the CCC software update checks.

If you donated in the past before jul 24 of this year where is what it says
about you downloading a free copy.
No. To express our appreciation to all of the people who have sent a verifiable
donation to Bombich Software prior to July 24, 2012 , we will grant a
registration code for CCC 3.5. If you are a previous donor and see a message
about a 30-day trial, you can retrieve your registration code. We have done our
best to automatically generate registration codes for all that have donated in
the past, so please first try to retrieve your registration code via the web,
as described below.

Please note that Carbon Copy Cloner has never been sold as part of a software
or hardware bundle in the past. Also, note that simply clicking the "I paid"
button (which would have suppressed the banners) is not the same thing as
sending a donation to us. The only way you could have donated to Bombich
Software is through a PayPal payment or a donation sent through postal mail.

If you are currently using CCC and have not donated in the past, you are
welcome to continue using any version up to and including 3.4.6 as long as you
like without purchasing a license. However, in order to qualify for a free CCC
3.5 license, you must have made a donation to Bombich Software prior to July
24, 2012. As of this date, we phased out the donation model

Here is what it says in regards to the fix for the new update.

This version of CCC requires Mac OS X Snow Leopard, Lion, or Mountain Lion, and
is fully qualified on each of those OSes. We will continue to provide user
support and bug fixes for Tiger and Leopard users on CCC 3.4.x for a while
longer.
Recovery HD support has been overhauled to better support the concept of "one
Recovery HD partition per volume", rather than one per disk. If you have
multiple backup volumes with different OSes (e.g. Lion and Mountain Lion), CCC
can associate a Recovery HD with each one and apply the appropriate OS to each
Recovery HD partition.
We have leveraged code signing within CCC for nearly five years. For GateKeeper
compliance on Mountain Lion, however, CCC is now signed with an Apple Developer
Certificate.

Hope that helps some of you who did not read the release notes. I am
considering buying this software if it is not too much as for me it is the best
program I have ever used.************
