How did you find out?
Myself by macrumors but the reason I ask is because in my system preferences, I have software updates to download automatically and have the pop button checked to daily. You see when I was on windows. Apple's software update came up automatically e.g. a new version of iTunes was available.
In other words, how does this process works on the Mac?
