So domains, here's the deal.

If you intend to use your server as a hosting environment then you would set up 
DNS or domain name service.  THis works by registering the top level domain say 
google.com with a route server.  Then a lookup comes in, hits the root the root 
refers it to the specific name server hopefully in this case your box and your 
box will hand out the correct name to IP mapping.  Generally meaning your 
resolver points to itself and your server is a primary DNS server. 
        Domains themselves are bought from a provider like Go Daddy or Network 
Solutions.  There's no real way around this.  Domains are cheap though, buy a 
few including some test domains so you can build out appropriately.
