I never ever store my mail boxes on my mac. I love cross platform stuff hence I
store my stuff in labels in my gmail.

After I have created the mailbox name which is a new mailbox say, I tab to
the pop-up which always shows name of my server, but if you vo space it, if
you up arrow to “Mac” and vo-space it then I press escape to close pop-up,
then I tab to the ok button.
My mailbox is in the correct alphabetical order in list of mailboxs.
I only know this works for creating new mailbox’s, not for existing ones.

Think I have found a work around for those times when your mailboxes are not
in alphabetical order on the Mac.
1. Find a mailbox that you would like to move.
2. Make sure that you: Interact with the mailbox list.
3. Once interacted with the desired Mailbox, perform the following commands.
1. Control option command F5. This will position your mouse pointer over the
mailbox.
2. Control option command shift space. This I’m guessing clicks the item you
have under the mouse pointer. Voiceover calls it: Mouse Down.
3. Very important! Insure that you are at the top level of the mail account
in the mailboxes list. Note: for this part, you are better off using the VO
keys and navigating left or right through the list respectively to find your
top level for your account. : Listen out for either the words: Collapse or
Expanded. Again, use the VO keys here. This is where I made the mistake of
not using them and by doing so, I didn’t here the collapse and expanded
information.
4. Once at the top level, perform the: Mouse Pointer command again here. Just
to insure that it is alined with your mail account in the list.
5. Finally, Perform the: Mouse Down command and hopefully all being well,
this should force the mailbox to appear in alphabetical order.
Of course, it would be better if Apple addressed this bug but for now its a
work around and I have found that most often than not, it has successfully
worked for me. However, your mileage, may vary.
I hope it is successfull for everyone else. Who are looking to sort the
Mailboxes from a screen reader point of view and thus, regain order of
mailbox organisation. !
