Don’t worry, its not all paradise with the Mac Mini M1, I can’t use the
Acapella voices any longer.

I actually did hear about that bug not too long ago. I don't have a mac mini m1
thing, so I have not been bit by that bug yet.

Hmm, I had no issue with that process, I wiped the SSD, activated the machine,
and was able to install a fresh copy of BigSur.
As for the machine running cold? Its not suppose to get hot escpaicllay with
the M1 chip it has.

Hi.
I now have my Mac mini M1 back, the machine had to be taken to the computer
shop as I forgot my password to login.
I them attempted to erase the SSD and start again however that process isn’t as
simple as it should be thanks to a bug in the recovery system that keeps
crashing VoiceOver in Disk Utility so erasing a SSD is very difficult.
Then I got a “Permission Denyed” error when I tried to reinstall OS so all too
damn difficult for me <smile>, get the chaps at the local computer store to
handle it so the machine - along with proof of purchase - got picked up on
Friday and I got it back on Monday, here are some interesting observations.
The machine runs cold though I managed to warm the M1 up a little by running a
variety of tasks altogether this morning.
These tasks included converting over 500 hours of audio from FLAC to MP3 whilst
conducting a FaceTime call, answering eMail, writing tweets etc.
The first thing you will notice about a M1 is its willingness it seems to
perform multi tasking without interfering whatever with VoiceOver, I
experienced no stuttering, stopping or crashing, absolutely brilliant.
My Audio conversion has been in progress for around 2 hours and thus far more
than half of the 500 files have been converted so that’s all good going.
The M1 takes around 10-12 seconds to boot, I don’t know what I was personally
expecting there but perhaps I was expecting a little too much thinking the
machine may boot near instantly.
Apart from what I’ve written regarding the forgotten password and my problems
with VoiceOver and Disk Utility I’ve had no other holdups or problems to deal
with. I can’t remember which App it was now but one I regularly use has 2
versions for Big Sur so I had to decide which one to use, the choices are
clearly marked but I can’t remember which App this referred to.
