Hi all,
My name is Paulette Vickery. I am new to using the Mac as well as the iPhone
and learned about this list along with the wonderful tutorials fairly
recently. I am so glad to belong to a list of other Mac and iPhone users!
Since this is my first post, I would like to tell you a bit about myself.
I have been blind since birth and right now I am 65 years of age. I am
married to a sighted man and have 6 grown sighted children and 11 sighted
grandchildren.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and I have a small private practice
as a psychotherapist that I conduct from home. I enjoy reading, knitting,
crocheting and conversation. I hope that it will be easier to find knitting
and crochet patterns using the Mac than it has been using my pc and Windows
7 desk top computer lately.
I have been using a pc DOS and then a Windows computer since 1993. I think
there is going to be a steep learning curve learning to feel comfortable
using a mac computer. But I keep reminding myself that in 1993, I was even
at more of a
Disadvantage than I am now, because back then I didn't even understand how a
cursor worked or that you didn't to end a line of text unless you wanted to
go to a new line. At least I know what a basic computer is and a bit about
the use of the ones and zeros that make up the binary or 2 digit code I am
working with to use the computer.
So here I am. I know that I own a Mac Book Air laptop computer, version
10.13.3.
I have John's free lesson about using Voice Over and I have called the Apple
Care line for people with disabilities several times.
But I am still very nervous about opening up that laptop and using it,
because I really don't know what to do. I think it will be a while until I
learn how to send email, so for now, I am using my Windows computer and Jaws
to read and send emails. I will be glad when I can use my sleek little Apple
laptop.
Again, I am so glad to be a member of this list and look forward to lurking
a bit and reading what everyone posts to get the flavor, so to speak, of
this Apple list. If anyone has any tips or tricks they would like to send my
way for getting started, feel free to do so. I look forward to reading
everything on this list.
