Obviously, everyone is entitled to their opinions and I welcome those
opinions here. Unfortunately, though, I don't agree with many of the things
you state for a variety of fairly obvious reasons. I really think you missed
the mark and are not seeing the big picture, or have left out some important
counter points.

First of all, Apple is a business. As someone who ran a vendor business
for 16 years and has now been running a training and support business for 2, I
understand that a company's bottom line is their bottom line. You are in
business to make money. Plain and simple. If you run a business, you
understand this. If you don't, your unfortunate and misguided notion is that
we are greedy for wanting to make money. There are plenty of people on this
very list who can tell you that I never charge them for answers to questions
and I give out free information and even training sessions. However, I am
trying to make a living off of this, and I feel that my time is worth money and
that my rates are surely pretty good compared to what else is out there. When
the day is done, I have to feed myself and pay my rent.

Now, with Apple, let's take this a step further. Apple makes nothing on
software. You leave out the fact that they only charge $20 for an entire
upgrade to their OS while Microsoft charges several times more, and most people
don't even know what version of Windows there supposed to have. Apple charges
$45 for their office suite in total if you buy all 3 applications. What does
MS charge for Office these days, and for the professional version to boot?

Anyone who has been in the Apple world for more than a few years knows
that Apple has always made their money on the hardware and accessories end of
the market. That is where their profits come from. You pay for that by
choice, and you get the quality you expect. I'd pay the money I spent on my
Mac Book Pro with the SSD memory any day of the week over a Dell or Fujitsu or
any other laptop that could match my specs. I paid more, I know, but i got an
Apple product and a far superior OS with a free screen reader that gives me
equal access to the things I need to get done as a sighted person can do.

Now, your notion in that iCloud should be free is even more off the mark.
Why shouldn't Apple charge for it? And, you mention what Google and others
give for free, but what do they charge for additional space? It is all the
same in the end. Just because you buy an iPhone or an iPad or a Mac, that does
not presume that Apple should give you free storage on their servers. So go
out and buy an external drive if you are so dead set against using the cloud or
paying for storage. You rent a basement apartment to somebody, but are you
going to provide them with additional closet space or give them all their
utilities for free? Let's be realistic here. And, you left out the part
about all the other features that you get for the FREE iCloud service outside
of the 5 GB storage.

You also miss the point of iTunes match. It has little to do with the
fact that you can get items with large capacity drives. I have a 16 GB iPhone
and 32 GB iPad, but I pay for the service. My iTunes library, btw, couldn't
fit on a 64 GB device anyway. Additionally, the iTunes Match service also
allows you to download high quality versions of the songs in your library. So,
for example, I had about 500 MP3 tracks of not so good quality in my library.
I paid $24.99 for the Match service and replaced all 500 songs. So, do the
math at, let's say, what would cost me a dollar of song to have normally
purchased through the iTunes store. I think I made my money back for the next
20 years.....

Lastly, let us not forget about the basic fact that Apple does not charge
for VoiceOver, and with iDevices, they have not charged for any upgrade. Also,
as an iDevice user, you can be pretty confident that your device will be able
to run the latest software for a much longer length of time than an Android
user will be able to run their latest software. Talk about greed. Look at
what the Android hand set makers do to people and come back to me. They scam
and lie to people right in the Verizon and AT&T stores, but no one is all over
the media about how they got sucked into buying an Android device that they
were told was "exactly like the iPhone" only to find out that, well ... it is
not exactly like an iPhone and, by the way, you'll need a newer phone to run
Jelly Bean 4.1 on it even though that was the "latest and greatest". I have a
very good friend who just learned this hard lesson and, sadly for him, he got
sucked into buying 4 phones for his family and a 2 year contract as well. He
is already thinking about taking the hit and buying an iPhone 5 next month.

Overall, though, if you feel Apple is greedy, so be it. As I said, you are
entitled to your opinions. I wanted to point out my perspective, but that does
not imply or infer that my opinion is any more valid than yours or anyone
else's. Just consider the entire big picture and the other factors that are at
work before you make those opinions public and open yourself to opposing
opinions.
