Here is what's happening with an erase-rebuild exercise.
It looks like the MacOS volume is okay according to Disk Utility.
That's very good so far. If I work on the big volume of
Macintosh HD, I get a failure on first aid and also an attempt to
erase.
This is probably something I did early on but one would
think it would just erase if one is supposed to be able to "wipe
it clean." The Recovery application is supposed to rebuild it.
That explains why every attempt to re-install the OS has
failed, so far.
I could say, "Well Apple told me to do it," but that's
what they tell everybody to do if they are transferring ownership
and don't want someone harvesting personal information so I admit
I've got more to learn but what I know isn't making sense yet.
