Well you know more than the Apple person, Trish. It isn’t that I need to know
what to ask before I call. This is all stemming from a setup of the computer
that went terribly wrong and now am trying to get Apple to fix it all! He had
no clue why the caps lock would not say caps lock and had me turning VO on and
off but is doing research. From your Email, I now know it has to be pressed
twice, thank you.
This guy claims to know his voice over stuff but apparently does not!
He has turned off notifications in mail because no matter where I am on the
computer, reading a document, in Safari, etc. if a message comes in, it begins
reading and interferes with what I am doing. I don’t think this is right but I
also don’t know how to fix it!
Very frustrated with Apple that I am in this mess when they said they would
work with me to get my data off Time Machine, set everything up and it has
caused nothing but problems. He blames it on Time Machine data being taken from
my old operating system Mavericks and going to High Sierra. I think if it is
their product, then it should work no matter what OS I am in.
thanks for your help.

Its as if, you need to kow what you want to do before calling them, or its
been my experience.
But the commanders or whatever they are called are in vo utility, its pretty
easy to setup,I did one for Text Edit using letter E since the T for time was
already setup.
But safari, mail, time, probably some others were already setup that way on my
mac,the option key is the right side one on my keyboard, since vo uses it with
control on the left, but with the caps lock being now a vo key,its whole lot
easier to use that sometimes.
you can change it in vo utility on general tab for setting both if you want
or just the caps lock as vo,i use both.
also, your caps lock key will still function as caps lock by pressing it two
times quickly turn on/off
one last thing, in all the vo utility menus towards the last item on each
menu, is a “help” I use that frequently cause it really explains lot of the
vo functions to me anyways.
now here’s tip for you, when you select “help” you need to use vo-arrow
keys, the right one to move in the help screen, when it says, web or table,
you need to interact with it in order to read the info there. the tables are
usually 2 colums and several rows,it gives a brief description of what the
function key does in that menu and the function its self.
you might not need it,just wanted to bring it to your attention.

Hello
During my session with the Apple people, my voice over settings were reset to
factory settings.
In that process, I lost all my shortcuts. We went into keyboard to shortcuts
today and tried to set a shortcut but it did not work.
I also don’t see a way to set a shortcut for getting to the top of the page
or setting one for the time. It looks like you have to go to a certain
application to set a shortcut and can’t do anything but what is offered.
It’s very confusing to figure out how to do this and apparently the Apple
person wasn’t really familiar because when we set a shortcut for getting to
Safari it did not work.
Any ideas on how to set a shortcut that would be used in all applications?
Thanks
Barbara
