I’ve been up on the Apple Store to look at the current Mac mini model which I
will get to in a moment.
Firstly the Current Mac mini does indeed have Thunderbolt ports which are
integrated into the USB-C ports so this is pretty standard for modern-day Mac
computers from iMac to MacBook Pro.
Everything else you’ve mentioned about the Mac mini is correctly and the price
seems quite reasonable though I will not be buying any more than 8GB of memory
as the price jumps dramatically, you’re better off buying the basic memory
configuration and doing the upgrade yourself if you need more but 8GB is a fair
chunk of memory for most people.
I don’t know whether the SSD drive can be upgraded, even so the basic 512GB I
think would be quite enough for most people. In any case - if you wanted more
storage - then the Mac mini has plenty of ports for extra storage to be added
and if performance was the name of the game then external SSD storage is as
cheap as chips these days.
If I had a complaint about the new Mac mini then it would be with regard to the
video.
As far as I can see the new Mac mini model uses the same graphics as does the
2012 Mac mini.
This won’t worry most people but I would have thought that Apple would have
considered one of the Radeon Graphics cards as an option at least for the
current Mac mini model. It does seem rather odd that Radeon chips are featured
in iMac and MacBook Pro models and not in a Mac mini model which is supposed
to be one of Apple’s better performance machines.
Anyway Simon good luck with your venture into the Mac World and you’ve
certainly chosen a machine that will get a lot of work down for you.

on the new mac mini, it has 4 usb-c ports, and 2 usb 3.0 the only other
ports is a 3.5 headphone jack, a eithernet port, and HDMI port for monitor.

I’m sure you’re aware that the new Mac Mini models have uSB-C and
Thudnerbolt connections rather than the USB-A connections we still think of
as standard? That particular point has been the main reason why I haven’t
upgraded to the new Mac Mini model, would cost me quite a bit to purchase
hew USB-C and thunderbolt cables not to mention adapters, drives etc.
Things have changed in that area a little now since I bought my Caldigit
Thunderbolt dock so I’ll purchase another of those when I do buy the new Mac
Mini model.

To be clear, it will be a 2018 MacMini, your just buying it in 2020, the
only thing apple did with the macmini this year, is make them less
expensive. To answer your other question, command f5 will turn on
voiceover. The command key is just to the left and right of the space bar.
And once your setup and running, you would go to the apple menu, go to
about, and there you will find everything you need to know about your
MacMini. Hope you have a keyboard, or purchased 1, because the MacMini does
not come with keyboard, monitor, or mouse. HTH

finally hoping to get my first mac, a 2020 mac mini, in a few days time, so

1, is there an easy way to get voice-over on for a totally blind person with
no eyes available?
and 2, how do I check the system spec?
just to make sure that I have been sent the right one, with the right
processor, right amount of ram, right amount of disk space, and right year?
