No. Hunt uh. That search box is searching the current buffer you have up, like your mentions, your DM's, etc.
What you need to do is hit command+I. Think I as in individual user. OK, now type the user in, and hit return. Now you should see their time line.OK, remember that drawer I told you about earlier? I don't know by default if it's enabled, so you may need to go into your view menu, and make sure it's checked. Once in the drawer, interacting with it, go to that user actions popup menu. In there you should b e able to follow or unfollow.
