_THANK YOU_ for sending me an invitation to attend STEM Journey,organized by
NESACS, Scouts of America, etc. And, thanks to NEACT for retainingme on the
e-mail group list to receive the “invite.”

_NESACS MEM. & PRIOR NEACT MEM:_ An NESACS member and priorNEACT member, I
(RJM) recently rejoined NEACT. (Reapplied at web site, and sent check to
Membership Secy.) I hope to resume attendingprofessional meetings after a long
spell of doing scientifically driven _patient advocacy & care giving work_for a
senior family member.

_STEM JOURNEY AT CAPE COD COMMUNITY COLLEGE_ was an excellent way toget back
into the swing of things, and I hope to attend upcoming meetings ofthe NEACT
Central Section.

For the past five years, andmore, I have had heavy duties as a Scientific
Healthcare Proxy (Sci. HcPrxy) /Family Member Care Giver (FMCG), including work
as a Personal (Pers.) ASLFingerspelling (FS) / Manually Coded English (MCE)
Interpreter, and implementerof therapy exercises, etc. for a low vision,
lipreader, widowed, senior familymember. The research branch (RJM Research) of
my small business drove thisscientific work. (Focal points included nutrition &
probiotic complex,etc.) Prior ACS lectures helped but only scratched the
surface in dealing withpitfalls in interfacing with healthcare, the nursing
center institution, andthe large law firm estate office, entrusted like the
proverbial steward withfamily money. Needless to say, in looking and making
comparisons with standardsfor the practice of law and financial advice in
science, medicine, &technology, implied or recommended by the American Chemical
Society (ACS), theAmerican Physical Society (APS), etc., and standards for care
of the elderly,suggested by AARP, things looked bleak at times, and, sadly,
more often thannot. (Chemists may wish to contact elected officials for patient
advocacy, andbe aware of: www.jointcommission.org )

During this time ofscientifically driven care giving, I managed to break away
to teach _Radio,_the radio merit badge course for Scouts of America. (As I
understand it, theRadio Merit Badge has now become a _STEM_activity.) Let me
explain that historically, my original _lab electronicsprofessor,_ an
industrial physicist, credited his electronics expertise to theamateur radio
hobby. In fact, as you may be aware, the purpose of the amateurradio license is
ultimately to provide the experimenter with an experimenter’slicense to permit
the country to maintain a pool of experts in radio &electronics, computers,
etc. It is also a fact that radio amateurs were a majormarket which kept the
U.S. home computer industry alive, and in development, duringits infancy, as
you may also be aware. May I say that personally, in my pastexperience, I found
the _ACS ShortCourse_ in Electronics for Lab Instrumentation _(ELIN)_ to be an
excellent _professionalcourse_ in addition to other education and training.

It was great _fun_ to attendSTEM Journey at Cape Cod Community College! The
talk by MIT Professor John J.Leonard on mobile robots was excellent. It was
gratifying to network with theexhibitors, e.g.

ACS, NESACS, (Nauset) SeaScouts, Discovery Flying RC Club, Cape Cod Maritime
Museum, Mass. MaritimeAcademy, Lighthouse Charter School- Ham Radio Club, Cape
Cod Makers, andothers.

   STEM Journey III 2016 When: Saturday, April 02, 2016 12:00pm-4:00pm Where:
Cape Cod Community College, West Barnstable, MA We want to welcome you to STEM
Journey III at Cape Cod Community College on April 2, 2016 from 12 to 4 PM.
This is a free K-12 and beyond educational outreach program. We would like this
event to stimulate an interest in and possibly a career in science for these
K-12 students. Please visit us and bring your children, grandchildren, a

Aviation 2:30PM Ocean Physics Researcher Katilyn Tradd of WHOI Talk- Manned,
Unmanned and Autonomous Vehicles  Boy Scouts will be busy in the morning
earning their traffic safety and railroading badges.  Girl Scouts will be
earning STEM badges at this event: We have four Barnstable Girl Scout Troops
and one Mashpee Girl Scout troop pre-registered to participate in the event. We
