Please forward this message to your contact with the students, parents and
teachers in the NH and surrounding areas that you know.
We really appreciate your willingness to help us in finding some very deserving
and talented students for the program. This note is applicable specifically to
the schools in NH. I'll send you a separate note for MA (particularly Boston
and Lawrence) and neighboring states.
Regards
Subhash

Dear Colleagues:
We at the University of New Hampshire are please to announce the availability
of ample funding (scholarships) for participation of highly talented and
deserving students in our Project SMART (Science and Mathematics Achievement
through Research Training), a Summer Institute (camp) at UNH in they month of
July, 2014. We would appreciate your encouragement of your students to apply
for the Project SMART Summer Institute at the University of New Hampshire.

Thanks to the UNH President's office, we have received special funds to
support several (up to 25) highly deserving and talented students who are
interested in science, technology, engineering and mathematics and would like
to enhance their knowledge and aptitude in these areas through a challenging
and motivating summer program in the rural settings of Durham, NH. I would like
to request you to spread the word to your students and colleagues about the
program. We would make every effort to provide the needed support to students
from minority, under-represented and under-served, first generation
college-bound, and other groups who would add to cultural and racial diversity
of the program. Students from rural school districts are specially encouraged
to apply. We would also like to recognize the school teachers (K-12) in NH and
provide special funds to their children and the children of armed services
personnel; so please forward this information to your contacts in those groups
as well.

We are seeking qualified high schoolers to have an experience of life-time
learning advanced topics in science, technology, engineering and mathematics,
getting a feeling for college life, meeting their peers from across the US and
as far away as Greece and Turkey, and developing lifelong friendships and
mentoring connections with UNH faculty and students.

Project SMART program challenges, educates, and motivates talented high school
students in science and mathematics. The program is open to high school
students who are currently enrolled (or home schooled) as sophomores (10th
grade) and juniors (11th grade). The participants study advanced topics in
science, mathematics and computers through lectures, discussions, hands-on
laboratory experience, and field trips; and learn to do research with UNH
faculty. The Summer Institute is an excellent opportunity to learn the
interdisciplinary nature of the various scientific fields and the applications
and implications (economic, social, environmental, legal, ethical and moral) of
recent scientific advancements to society. In addition to learning/doing
science, the students gain a greater appreciation for careers associated with
the various sciences and establish friendships with their peers, and mentoring
relationships with the UNH faculty.

The 2014 program runs from July 1 to 25. For more details, see
www.smart.unh.edu<http://www.smart.unh.edu/>. The program offers three modules;
Biotechnology & Nanotechnology, Marine & Environmental Science, and Space
Science, each admitting up to 25 students.
Attached is a brief description of the program and other information that could
be posted in your school.
