We will be having a forensic scientist from the Henry C. Lee Institute
presenting at our summer conference! Dr. Fred Smith will give a
presentation and a workshop; however if you are interested in more in-depth
study this is a great opportunity for anyone teaching or interested in
forensic science. (There are two different sessions listed so scroll down
to see both).

FORENSIC ANTHROPOLOGY FOR EDUCATORS

The Henry C. Lee Institute of Forensic Science provides an in-depth,
practical, hands on workshop on methods of finding, recovering and
identifying human remains. Beginning with search methodologies, including
ground penetrating radar, magnetic sensing and aerial photography, the
course examines the difficulties encountered in searching for missing
persons who are presumed dead.

Once the remains have been located, the emphasis shifts to recovery and
preservation of valuable evidence that can be lost by incomplete or improper
recovery. Archaeological techniques that provide stratigraphic control and
proper documentation are essential to proper forensic recovery.

The course then examines the various components of identification. Are the
remains human? How many persons and their personal identification are
determined using techniques of forensic anthropology. Establishing the time
of death is also an important element of the analysis of human remains.

Each area will be addressed by both lectures with case history, and
practical exercises in search methods, excavation, and analysis of human and
non-human skeleton remains.

Forensic Science for Educators

July 11-15, 2011

$695.00

The recent explosion of TV based Forensic Science shows has created a rush
to quench that desire for knowledge. Many schools have recently initiated,
or plan to initiate curriculum based on Forensic Science. This unprecedented
interest in and multidisciplinary aspect of Forensic Science has created an
effective method to teach science to students. While the science is a
constant, it is the application of that science in a law enforcement setting
that the Henry C Lee Institute of Forensic Science will be presenting in a
comprehensive 5-day course.

The Institute offers this hands-on course which is aimed at the educator who
is already teaching, or is interested in teaching forensic science in a high
school or middle school setting. The course will be taught in two different
perspectives, from a scientist perspective and from the eyes of a crime
scene investigator.
