Perhaps someone can be of assistance.
Does anyone know off-hand who the main science reporter for The Times of London was in 1866? If not, perhaps someone knows of a reference where I could find this information. I have contacted personnel of The Times on-line archives without success, and I can go the route of trying to identify the newspaper's archivist (the on-line personnel were no help at all in this regard), but a quicker way would be desirable. 

I am an independent researcher, and any assistance would be appreciated.
