Subject: Invitation to Participate in the 2009 Boston University Regional Science Bowl

 Dear Teachers and Counselors,
On behalf of Boston University, we would like to invite your school to participate in the 2009 Regional Science Bowl that we will host on Saturday, February 28, 2009. The competition was instituted by the U.S. Department of Energy in 1991 and is now in its 19th successful year. Over the years, the Science Bowl has inspired high school students nationwide to excel in the areas of math and science. Since its inception, the National Science Bowl has brought together more than 100,000 high school science and mathematics students from across the country to compete on topics in biology, chemistry, physics, earth science, general science, and mathematics. Each team is comprised of four students, one alternate student, and a teacher who serves as an advisor and coach. Regional elimination tournaments are held throughout the country. The winning team from each regional competition receives an all- expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. for the national finals that will take place April 30 - May 5, 2009. Boston University is proud to have been selected as one of the New England sites and will host the all-day event in its state-of-the-art Photonics Center (http://www.bu.edu/photonics
 ).
If you are interested in assembling a team and participating, you must register your team on the following website: http://www.bu.edu/scibowl by January 23, 2009. There are 30 slots available and "A" teams will be confirmed for these slots on a first-come, first-served basis. . Schools with enrollments of greater than 1500 students total may also register a "B" team. IF and ONLY IF there are remaining slots on January 23rd, "B" teams will be invited to participate based on their order of registration. Please note, if you register to participate, you may hold a slot with only a coach's name for the time being, but all team members must be entered by January 23rd in order for your team to be confirmed. I have attached a flyer with additional information, as well as a an outline of the tournament format and schedule. Should you have any questions about any of the above, please feel free to call me at 617-353-2620, or email me at ccarey@xxxxxxx We hope you will consider forming a team to participate in this prestigious event.
 Best regards,

 Cora Carey
