Attention NH Middle and High Teachers! We are writing to inform you of a unique opportunity available to you. It is called Forest For Every Classroom (FFEC) and it is a year-long professional development series for middle and high school teachers. The FFEC workshop series offers you: . A field-based exploration of important private and public forests in our region, spanning all four seasons. . Authentic field-work methods and award-winning curriculum materials from Project Learning Tree . . Hands-on, active sessions presented by naturalists, foresters, industry experts, and others passionate about the future of forest stewardship. . Strategies for increasing student academic achievement through place-based education, inquiry and field investigations. . Service learning fundamentals and case studies. . Curricula and resource materials for teaching about and using forests to learn about ecology, stewardship, civics, geography, watersheds, and more. . 3 Graduate credit option through Plymouth State University (additional fee for credits). . A network of educators, scientists and resource specialists working side by side with teachers. . Mini-grants up to $200 upon completion of a new or modified unit involving the forest. The deadline to register is June 8th . The link is http://www.nhplt.org/index.php/calendar/event/31/. NOTE: Also, if you prefer to put the $200 mini grant towards your registration fee (so registration would be $200) that is possible. In my eight years of teaching secondary science, PLT's Forest for Every Classroom has been the most stimulating and practical professional development experience that I've had. FFEC changed the way I teach, year after year. Imagine learning field techniques and activities that will turn your students into young scientists. Imagine getting instruction from experts in forestry, natural history, watersheds, and wildlife. Imagine receiving and practicing with curriculum materials that you can take back to your classroom and really use. And, imagine receiving ongoing support from PLT staff and your FFEC classmates after you return to school. This is the way professional development is supposed to be. This is FFEC. Sarah Thorne Prospect Mt. High School Alton, NH Feel free to e-mail Sarah for a FFEC teacher's perspective at sthorne@xxxxxxxxxxxxx and register today! Thank you again!
