Hello Colleagues - 2 things to share:

1) I am writing to encourage you to encourage a few of your students to
apply to the Project SMART program. We need 5 more students to run the
chemistry module: Nanotechnology, the Advancing Science program
instrumentation, and molecular modeling and kinetics software would
comprise a major part of their experience as well as designing an
original experiment that they could continue with for either the NH
Science and Engineering Exposition or the Junior Science and Humanities
Symposium. There are also openings in the other areas: Biotechnology,
Environmental and Marine, and Space Science. =20

This is an incredible 4 week experience that not only move the students
in terms of authentic science but also gets them prepared for what life
is like on a college campus....it's also fun! My grad students in the
PROBE project will once again be involved...and the students really
loved the interaction and understanding of what they are doing in their
research and careers. So the mentoring aspects are very strong.

The deadline was extended to April 22nd and if there is a financial
hardship they should call Subhash Minocha (603-862-3840) for assistance.

Please take 5 minutes and share this opportunity with your colleagues
and students and friends. The $1550 only pays for their lodging, food,
and field trips....all other programming, personnel, and laboratory
costs are born by UNH....which is fairly reasonable for a 4-week
program. Anyone who sends their children to camp understands this. The
students also receive undergraduate credits if they pay the $25 or so
registration fee.

2) The Advancing Science program is growing and our new van now provides
a transportation system for delivery of equipment to your schools. In
order to participate teachers must participate in the Science Technology
Institutes with instruments, current methods, scientists, and colleagues
that help us all to remain current and excited about our science! The
Institute is scheduled for July 11-15th. See the web site at -
http://leitzelcenter.unh.edu/advscience/home.htm We are about
half-filled at this point in time and your costs include 2-3 weeks of
accessibility for your classes in the following year.
