----- Original Message ----- As a high school chemistry teacher I’m sure that you’ll be interested in developments on your behalf by the American Chemical Society (ACS). The society is forming the American Association of Chemistry Teachers, AACT, for the support of K-12 chemistry teachers. Key details like membership fees and benefits are still missing but should be forthcoming within the year. Meanwhile a key issue of the ACS Journal of Chemical Education, JChemEd, is available as a open (free) sample issue. http://pubs.acs.org/toc/jceda8/91/1 . The first four articles plus the editorial are devoted to AACT in addition to several other articles dealing with teaching high school chemistry. I’m an emeritus 50-year member of ACS and although not an educator per se, I’ve been both a member of the ACS Division of Chemical Education (CHED) and a subscriber to JChemEd for several decades. For any of you who are already ACS members I also encourage to join the CHED if you haven’t already done so. Regardless of membership or not, I encourage you to also join AACT. Some of you may already have access to JChemEd personally or through your school library. If not I hope that this sample issue will prompt you to gain access. I’m hoping that AACT will promote formation and nurturing of High School Chemistry Clubs (if any of you already have one, please let me know). I’ll keep you posted on further developments in AACT. -- Bob Buntrock Orono [ mailto:buntrock16@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx ]buntrock16@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
