    Helping to spread the word about some local free PD for teachers. If
you have ever been curious about teaching *computer science* then this
opportunity may be for you. This announcement is going out to all sorts of
science and math listserves. All sorts of info below, and an email address
is included in the text for questions.

*Become an AP Computer Science Principles Teacher *Teaching the Beauty and
Joy of Computing Curriculum



*Why learn to teach the Beauty and Joy of Computing (BJC)?*

·      You’ll teach* rigorous yet accessible content* approved by the
College Board as an Advanced Placement (AP) Computer Science Principles
(CSP) course.

·      *No Computer Science is experience required *for teachers or
students.

·      *Teacher professional development *uses a blended learning model
with up to 120 hours of face-to-face support and online learning components.

·      The *Snap! visual programming language* and *research-based
curriculum* prepare students for the new Computer Science Principles exam
first offered in Spring 2017.

·      *BJC is designed to attract a broad population of students*,
including females and underrepresented minorities, with a balance of
programming and social implications.



*When and where?*

·      *July 11-15, 2016 *face-to-face session

·      *Education Development Center*, 43 Foundry Ave Waltham, MA

·      *Applications due by May 27th, 2016*

The *Beauty and Joy of Computing* AP Computer Science Principles curriculum
is based on a popular undergraduate course at University of California,
Berkeley (UCB) and is being adapted into a high school AP CSP course by
Education Development Center, Inc. (EDC) and UCB. The BJC curriculum is
currently being field-tested in New York City public schools in partnership
with the NYCDOE and CSNYC with funding from the National Science
Foundation.
