here is an opportunity for your students.
Dawn
______The University of New Hampshire is inviting you to nominate/encourage
some students from your school to apply for the Project SMART (Science and
Mathematics Achievement through Research Training –www.smart.unh.edu) Summer
Institute. Project SMART is entering its 30th year, and we take pride in
offering it again – better than ever Project SMART summer program challenges,
educates, and motivates talented high school students in science and
technology. The program is open to high school students who are currently
enrolled (or home schooled) as sophomores and juniors. We offer three modules;
Biotechnology & Nanotechnology, Marine & Environmental Science, and Space
Science, each admitting up to 25 students. The participants study advanced
topics in different fields of science through lectures, discussions, hands-on
laboratory experience, and field trips; and learn to do research with UNH
faculty. There is a strong emphasis on the applications of recent advances in
science to society, as well as their social, economic, ethical, moral,
environmental, and legal implications. Over the past several years, we have
made special efforts to achieve the greatest diversity of talented students
across the US and abroad – we expect a similar situation this year as well.
Students have come from across the US including Alaska, the Navajo Nation,
Puerto Rico and many other states, and internationally from Greece, Turkey,
Jordan, Kazakhstan, Spain, Germany, Canada, India, Thailand and China among
others. I hope that we’ll get a few of students from your school again to join
this diverse group of highly talented and STEM-interested students this coming
summer. Please find the attached information about Project SMART-2020, and
spread the word to your students and pass along the information to your
colleagues in your school to encourage some students to apply for the program.
Let me know if you need any further information at this time. We would love to
invite you as well to the program in the final week, if possible.
