Just wanted to tell that I had my first ride on Monty, my 16" python
today. It was really fun. Rode for 3 km when suddenly I realised the
front dropouts had only been tack welded. I better fix this before
taking any longer tours.
I also tested the public transport capabilities by taking the bike on
the Copenhagen–Malmo train. The pieces went into a big plastic bag and
no one could guess this was a bike. A man who took the seat next to the
bag peeked down the opening and asked me what it is. Oh, I said, just
some scrap metal ...
But the parting and packing procedure is still a little time consuming.
Room for considerable improvements here.
On level ground the bike rides well and feels stable. But on a down
slope, guess I was making 20 km/h, I suddenly had a spooky feeling that
the bike floated in the air above the ground. Not being used to this I
pulled the brake immediately. On the other hand, going uphill increased
stability quite a lot.
Compared to my Flevobike the difference is not big when going at slow
speeds, slightly more nervous perhaps but that may well be due to my
lack of python-experience.
If it wasn't for Dirk, Monty would still only be on paper together with
all the other python designs I have drafted during the last two years.
He pushed me hard into taking the first steps and I needed that. He
also made me feel comfortable in the strange and unfamiliar environment
of the workshop. Thanks Dirk.
Oh, and thanks Jürgen for coming up with this weird but beautiful
python idea.
Next week I will have time to photograph the little bastard ...
