Laurent,

Looks good, can't wait to hear more! How much more building remains?

I am very curious about the purpose of the gears (on the linkage)! Can you explain?

I've been thinking about using gears or linkages or something to allow handlebars which pivot properly (around a fixed axis), as opposed to moving about in an odd fashion, but I haven't come up with anything particularly clever yet.

My vython is progressing slowly, although I got a lot done yesterday. Thanks to your email about the seat/leg clearance issue, I realized that I hadn't properly compensation for this and made some last-minute design modifications, although I stopped short of changing any of the pieces that we had already made. The ground clearance is now quite small, but that's ok because it is a prototype and I know I can improve it considerably without changing the steering geometry, but to do so would complicate things slightly -- no extra parts or anything like that, it would just be harder to align things properly.

It's funny, I knew that the wheel would move back and sideways, and even calculated how much on my models, but somehow I didn't quite think it through -- I was thinking about the wheel hitting the seat, and I didn't even realized that it would also run into my legs! Still, now that I've compensated for it, I think that it will be rideable, although the turning radius will be limited to about 30 degrees away from the center, which is not too bad for a SWB lowracer, but not ideal for low-speed maneuvering. In the process of quickly trying to modify the existing design, I figured out a few things and also identified some issues which I want to investigate further, but this will have to wait until I have more time, probably after I finish the prototype. Oh, and I am probably being too optimistic, but I think that the sideways movement of the wheel may allow one to steer with the inside of the thighs as well as the feet.

Michael
