Thanks for your hint.
After executing
Ps -e | grep -i piespeakup
There was no output, so I supposed that piespeakup was not running.
My next step:
Service piespeakup start
I got the message that the device soft_synt was busy, and after that I stopped
espeak.
After starting piespeakup successfully, I still got no speech, even after
reboot.
In the web I have got the hint to add the following line to /boot/config.txt:
dtparam=audio=on
After reboot, Espeak was active again, but speech was slow and broken (like a
Dalek on Doctor Who ;-)). I also had error messages, per example:
Alsa lib pcm.c:2217:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown pcm cards.pcm.front
ALSA lib pcm.c:2217:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM cards.pcm.rear
ALSA lib pcm.c:2217:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM cards.pcm.center_lfe
ALSA lib pcm.c:2217:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM cards.pcm.side
After that I got the message that connection tot he server was not possible.
After further research I was recommendet to edit /usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf and
change the line
Pcm.front cards.pcm .front
To
Pcm.front cards.pcm .default
With the same result after reboot.
In the web the issue seems tob e known, but noone has a solution.
Has there anything happened with Alsa during firnware update? (There was no
issue with espeak before)
