Sorry, I don't know with a computer that comes with one out of the box.
And unfortunately, I don't even know enough about the kernel to understand
what CONFIG_INPUT_PCSPKR is (but I want to learn! I'd like to ask you
about that sometime, but I get that's off-topic for now). But if you don't
want to use a USB speaker, or one using the 3.5mm audio jack, you could
probably use the GPIO pins to wire one in, or have someone with vision do
it for you if you don't know what you're not comfortable with soldering
(like me, LOL).
Of course there's another possibility, and one that has worked for me: Use
USB or 3.5mm audio, and make your own case. I've often wished I had the
hardware skills to create my own computer, something with a battery,
keyboard, Pi and speakers all built-in. That would be really cool. But
then I saw this Commodore 64 replica that's basically just a Pi (or
something like one) and a keyboard in a custom case. That I can do (and
plan to do once this whole corona virus thing has blown over). On YouTube,
I've seen people make cases out of everything from cardboard to Lego blocks
to plastic containers. If you have a 3D printer and know how to use one,
you can make a case that looks much cooler. But regardless, if all you
want is a small computer with a speaker, you definitely have some options
with that 3B+.
PS: Just curious, and I get this is way off-topic, but how did you get
started working with the kernel? I know C very well, but wouldn't know
what I'm looking at if I were to just read the code. Can I just run "man
linux"? LOL just kidding.
