Hi. I just wanted to ask if anyone has installed freebsd on their PI's and
gotten any wifi adapter working?
If so , how did you do it?
I purchased a ew-7811-un wifi usb adapter that is supposed to work.
And it did come up eventually in the FreeBSD ifconfig command. But I couldn't
do anything with it. wpa_supplicant wouldn't recognize it by name among other
things.
It said it was up. So I haven't a clue.
I also don't know how to find drivers vs what hardware they are supported with.
I think Scott said he had worked with FREEBSD but I don't know if you can give
some pointers or not Scott.
The other question is. I read somewhere that you should be able to connect two
computers via ether net cable and somehow access the machine you want without
using SSH. But I have no idea what cable to buy. Or what software I would run
to do so.
I am also wondering if there are routers that can be configured to connect to
the wifi of your internet that have ethernet ports.
I tried looking that up today. Found a video I think talking about it. But the
person's English was kind of hard to understand.
But you know. Connect the device to the wifi then plug in the ethernet cable to
the raspberry pi when using freebsd to get the network connection without much
hassle trying to configure WIFI on it.
I can't run an ethernet cable downstairs. That is the problem.
And I have tried looking for a wifi adapter that works with FREEBSD out of the
box. But I can't find any on amazon except for this edimax one. Which I think
is garbage.
If you try to more than two tasks at a time no matter how small or big they may
be it won't do anything you want it too.
Probably good for SSH if I could figure out how to configure it on FreeBSD but
imho not good for much else.
I think that is it for that. I have to write one more brief post though to talk
about my excitement of what I found with edbrowse and all you can do with it.
