Hi Jessica,
I feel the same about the Pi. It's such a cool little device. I am now
working on getting Stormux working on it. The weblsite is Stormux.com And I
get the images from Stormux.com/downloads I cannot remember if the website is
com oor org. I heard that Stormux has some good speech for the pi. There's
also the magpi magazine where you can find cool projects. Keep telling us
your experiences. It's like a breath of fresh air. Motivates me to go back
and struggle with figuring out my Pi again. I am taking a CAVI Linux class so
I can better understand Linux and the Pi So I am very much in the slow lane.
But I am still amazed at the potential of the Pi.

Hi all.
First thanks for those who responded. I am playing around with edbrowse and
I still have lots to learn how to reply with emails with it etc.
I really like edbrowse for a number of reasons.
But anyway.
Regarding soldering. Thanks for the confidence in stating it could be done.
I guess I just feel that might be a bit dangerous.
I have come across the comments about bread boards. So I will look into that
too thanks.
Compiling espeak from source. I suppose I could do that yes. At some point.
I do know how to compile software.
Its just been like oh my. Twenty years since I did so on a regular basis.
I compiled linux from scratch several times back then. I guess I am
hesitating simply because I have to relearn lost things through the years.
Travis how I got it to work. Honestly I don't recall. I think I just
followed what I always do on archlinux.
arch its pacman -S espeakup alsa-utils brltty
on raspbian and debian its apt install brltty espeakup alsa-utils
At least I believe that is how I did it. Its so weird. I can't remember.
I of course did it from ssh. Then I rebooted the pi. And it came up braille
display happily chirping away dots going up and down. And espeakup happily
talking.
I don't have mate/orca on here yet. Mainly because I don't know where to
begin. I never had luck installing GUI's except on archlinux and even then
it was hit or miss.
But I am not a GUI person anyway.
Rich. Yes the fan is a very nice audio queue. I had it on pins 1 and 6 for a
bit. That was quieter. But I didn't like it set there so I put the pins back
to the 4 6 pin option.
I really have a lot to learn. I love the PI though because you can like well
as I have been telling my fb friends. The sky is the limit even as a blind
person. There are no limits.
BTW. I tend to be
1. Long winded. So please if that bothers you my hugest apologies.
2. Hesitant on sharing my computer experiences. As I shared once and got a
huge backlash from people on the list. I guess they thought I was bragging
or something. So I hesitate to share all my experience.
I am a Technician Ham Radio Operator as well. So I was thinking maybe of
doing some radio projects once more comfortable.
If espeak-ng isn't to hard to compile. I might go ahead and aat least try
it. See if it helps anyway.
