I have been frantically writing Ansible code all weekend.
Now what I have is a series of Ansible roles and playbooks with which I
can configure Raspberry Pi images with a mix and match approach.
The code will, simultaneously, configure...
Distro:
* Arch Linux (armv6, armv7 or aarch64)
* Raspbian
Console mode stuff:
* speakup (either Arch or Raspbian)
* fenrir (Arch only, install still broken on Debian and derivatives)
* Emacs and Emacspeak
Desktops:
* Mate
* I3
Now, because Ansible does this over the network, and because I have a
Bitscope Blade rack here which holds four Raspberry Pi boards at once, I
can kick it off configuring four at a time.
1. Raspbian Lite with console tools only (speakup and emacspeak)
2. Raspbian Lite with Mate
3. Arch Linux with console tools only (speakup or fenrir and emacspeak)
4. Arch Linux with Mate
And of course the desktops, whether mate or i3, can also have the
console tools installed.
And when that is done I can unplug those cards and start on another four
different combos.
Torrents
I am thinking that if I start to produce multiple images I should really
find somewhere I can put torrents for download and seeding, where space
is not so much at a premium as it is on our Web site.
A while ago somebody did volunteer to provide some torrent server space.
Are they still around.
Oh and one more thing about Ansible...
If you are in Australia, Outer Mongolia, the Antarctic or anywhere else,
if you let me through your router, I could configure your Raspberry Pi
for you on site.
Note that I am just saying that for illustration, I don't intend to
offer that as a service.

Still a work in progress but working very nicely.
I have made so many changes in the last 48 hours the README files are a
long way behind. But I want to get images up before I update the docs.
This Ansible approach makes the business of making new images
periodically a lot less of a drag.
I nearly forgot...the Ansible code does everything, including setting
locale and timezone selectively.
So Rill, you can have a America/Chicago Arch image.
The only thing I can't do, is make the Pi faster.
But if I manage to solve all the problems with I3 currently it will work
a lot faster than it does running mate.
Other desktops I intend to add to the Ansible code are flwm, ratpoison
and possibly stumpwm. And probably other very light desktops, like
fluxbox etc.
