Quite a while back, I asked the members of this group for suggestions on
Linux packages they use. Happily, I got dozens of responses. Folding in
some of my own ideas, I put together a prototype of an online catalog, as
well as some infrastructure for building and deploying turnkey collections
of blind-friendly software. It's still early days, but here are a couple
of relevant links, for the curious:

By way of justification, although processors in hand-held machines tend
to be comparatively limited in CPU and RAM, persistent storage is under
no such constraint. When you can get a TB Micro SD card, there's little
need to be parsimonious about including software: if someone can make a
good case for including a package, we can do so.
More generally, I'm interested in getting feedback on the accessibility,
general approach, and goals of the web site. So, here are some more links:
