The PI also has RAM that can be used for tmp, but the sd card write limits
are pretty much theoretical, because with wear levelling you are almost
certain to never hit them. So I wouldn't worry about it.

Unfortunately Allstar development is leaving it behind for PI3.
It also has only one USB port so you need a hub.
I think this is as always a case of fitting the equipment to the task.
