I know blind Linux users are a small enough group to be easily ignored
by projects not directly related to assistive technology, but I find
it hard to believe ALSA can be causing us this many problems without
causing our sighted peers problems as well. Are the glitches in ALSA
really specific to text-to-speech, or is ALSA just all around broken
on the Pi but our sighted peers are having an easy enough time
bypassing the broken sound to not be breathing down the neck of
whoever is in charge of ALSA?

Latest is I discovered that setting speech-dispatcher up for ALSA is a
bad idea as that makes it regularly crash.
There is also some kind of bug in the latest alsa-lib which is causing
race conditions and hence crashes in espeak and espeakup.
